Morph and manifest are exceedingly complex mechanics (as is Madness) and there’s already going to be a number of “newer” players that stumble with these as they play with them. That’s a notably missed interaction in this list (] being the only nod to that mechanic), but I also TOTALLY GET IT. For me, when I build morph lists, I love the ability to reset my morph cards and flip them back face down. My immediate reaction to this list was “WHERE IS ], WHERE IS ], WHERE IS ], WHERE IS….” The designers of these products face a huge abundance of choice. She’s an exceptionally good choice to include here, and she’s leagues better than them putting ] in this list for “soft counters” theme. In fact, this particular Vraska is specifically VERY hard to evaluate in Commander games because her -3 is awesome, and while her +1 is underwhelming, it distinctly makes it feel bad to remove her. And we’re not gonna get ] in the flashback list. We were told we’d get a planeswalker in every deck some people crossed their various body parts and said, “I can’t wait for ] in the morph list, we’re gonna get UGIN.” Uh, no we weren’t. So I want to consider a few pieces that feel ugly, but are doing just fine, and a few pieces that feel ugly, and are ugly. There are “obvious” inclusions, but those often get pushed aside for whatever budget constraints WotC are put under. There are 20,000+ magic cards to sift through. This is where I want to be a bit more specific because there’s a lot to be said for the work that goes into designing these precons. It’s super soft, and y’all could do better. There’s a VERY SOFT theme of counters in the deck. If there’s anything to be said for this list of cards, it’s that I get why Tezzeret’s Gambit is here. It’s slow, confusing, and even when done correctly is not particularly impactful. Also, clearly someone was proud of Bounty of the Luxa’s design, but I have not found any players that enjoyed it or found it worthwhile. ], ], ], ], ]? These cards are bad, and in a few of these cases, there are AGAIN immediate improvements at no additional budgetary expense. Small changes, big improvement, and especially I the case of Tomb of the Spirit Dragon, huge increase in terms of how thoughtful the deck appears Specifically in THIS deck, give me ], and ]. Give me ], ], ], ], any of the Vivid lands.

Those lands just aren’t worth it and there are IMMEDIATE replacements that would be improvements at the same budgetary level. I see six in this list, and temple of the false god. The last step, in my opinion is for them to literally stop putting any ETB tapped land that only produces two colors of mana. They gave us several rare lands that function well in this list. They’re never going to give us fetches, shocks, snow duals, etc. I’m a big proponent of cheaper mana bases, and I think this is getting to a sweet spot that works for both players and WotC.

The mana base is a distinct improvement over last year. They’re weird, they’re all over in terms of function and power level, and they cater to a bunch of different usages in this list and others. The new cards crafted for this list are hands down marvelous. I'll do this sort of breakdown for the other lists as well when they're spoiled, and I think once it's all said and done, I'll compile a list of simple improvements for each list to just make the lists feel more utile and thematic. I've been playing the format since Conflux, and have a distinct love for the deckbuilding process, so I always enjoy scrutinizing WotC's process for these products. I took a bit of time to digest the list for Faceless Menace and wanted to share my thoughts as a veteran EDH player.
